Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews Henan journalist, Li Xiang, was stabbed for his investigation of hogwash oil scandals, spotlighting the scandal once again. It is said that on average, every Chinese has one out of ten meals cooked with hogwash oil. Critics believe that this special provision system leads to tainted food problems. The Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) corruption system destroys morality and threatens lives. Journalist Li Xiang from Henan Luoyang TV was stabbed 13 times on his way home on September 18. His computer was also taken from his home. On September 20, police announced that two suspects were arrested for robbery. The 30-years old TV journalist was reporting on legal issues. His last microblog on September 15 was about hogwash oil. Some believe that hogwash oil manufacturers may have paid someone to murder him. Reporters Without Borders released a statement expressing their shock. Zhenzhou Daily stated that the allegation of the murder being related to Li Xiang's hogwash oil reports, shows to some extent the public's concern about the hogwash oil issue. Hogwash oil is a refined oil from food leftovers, kitchen trash, and sewage water. After special treatment for color and odor, it looks clear, like normal salad oil. Medical research shows however, that hogwash oil contains a strong carcinogen, 10 times more poisonous than arsenic. He Dongping, expert from National Food and Oil Standard Committee said last year, that 2-3 million tons of hogwash oil is used annually, making up to 1/10 of China's total oil consumption. However, later he denied what he said in his speech, explaining that he was under "a lot of pressure" afterwards. Huang Liangtian (Former editor, Bai Xing magazine): "He must have suffered some pressure, because his speech was viewed as stirring public concerns, and affecting social stability. What he said was the truth, his denying it later was not. Whoever put pressure on him won't just be a public member." Professor Wang Chenming from Huanong Food Technology College believes that the given by He Dongping figure was underestimated. Professor Wang claims that in 2009, hogwash oil consumption was 4-5 million tons. Economist Lang Xianping explained how China's hogwash oil industry is highly lucrative, with its ca. RMB2 bill. a year. Recently, a hogwash oil marketing network in more than 14 provinces was exposed, with over 10 tons of oil and 100 boxes of fake brands cooking oil confiscated, and 32 suspects arrested. Under the name of producing bio diesel, the Jinan Gelin Bio Energy company collected crude hogwash oil from other provinces, and refined them into oil, with a daily production of more than 10 tons. Then, they wholesaled or retailed them to food markets, hotels, restaurants or street stalls. On September 16, Wulumuqi City also found a hogwash oil production facility. The dirty and smelly oil was processed and sold to chemical factories to make soaps or paints. Commentaries from South Metropolis Daily said, hogwash oil is just another issue the government does nothing about. Xinhua News Agency said that when reviewing the cases of hogwash oil, in every stage, from collection, refinement, wholesale to retail, one could never find any government agency monitoring. Financial Times' article from Sept. 20 states, the officials' Special Provision System removes their food from the market. Throughout China people are trying to copy this system to stay safe amidst the booming industry of tainted foods. Xinhua website reported on September 16, that the organic farm at Suichang Jiangsu was transformed into a special farm supplier to provincial governments, which was refuted by local agriculture agency, but criticism flooded the micro blogs. Zhu Jiangu (Shenzhen Independent Writer): "State Council has many documents showing that they have been enjoying special food supplies, and every local government has their own provision channel. The rich officials never feel the threats of tainted foods. Even worse, officials and businessman collaborate, so they wouldn't harm each other. The company producing tainted baby formula was labeled as a premier business." Financial Times' commentaries note that just like before, nobody is ever held responsible for tainted foods. The terrible state of food safety shows how China's society is losing moral grounds on honesty and fairness. Beijing Lu Pedestrian Street, This is the main shopping thoroughfare, a pedestrian street where most stores are open from 9AM-10PM. It has absolutely everything; cheap clothes, good food and even a little history. There is a display of the original road from the song dynasty (960 – 1279 A.D). In the center of the street you will see two underground archeological sites showing that this road has existed here for nearly a thousand years. Coke must have struck a good deal with Guangzhou’s municipal authorities because the pair of underground sites are sponsored by the American soda icon. Just in case you overlook that fact on the accompanying bronze plaque, then you can’t miss the Coca Cola logo that appears on almost every other glass panel which peers below into a pit with remnants of the Song and Ming dynasty roads on display. Permanently stationed between the two historical sites is the convenient Coca Cola Trolley, peddling the traditional glass bottles of what Chinese people not too long ago believed was a strange elixir that tasted like some awful western medicine. The Xinhua bookstore is a good place to buy a tourist atlas of China. This is really the only shop around here that I would recommend. You won’t find any bargains if you’re looking for cheap clothing or those popular fake brand name designer goods. There is a wide range of stores available, from a large modern-style department store to stores selling the latest fashions for young people, to the ultra-cheap shacks hawking t-shirts, jewelry and knick-knacks… When you walk down beijing lu you will see little alleys on the left and right. In there are many little shops where you can bargain. Designer clothes, bags, all the girls stuff and a bit of guy’s clothes. There is tons of guys selling fake watches there as well and they will follow you down the road for a bit trying to get you to look at their stuff. You will get exhausted when you see all the things are real cheap, but 1 thing, you get what you paid for. The things are not so good quality if it is real cheap. But as for a lady we will still buy if when we see things are cheap , it doesn’t matter at least we will use it for a few times it you dont like it anymore you can give it to someone else , after all the things that you bought are cheap . If you are staying in GuangZHou hotel or Landmark Hotel, it is a walking distance, just about 10 minutes walking from the hotel to the beijing lu Pedestrian Street.

The CTF HOKO shopping mall, operated by a joint venture led by Hong Kong jewellery giant Chow Tai Fook Group, stands in the heart of the Qianhai free-trade zone, about a 30-minute drive from downtown Shenzhen. Qianhai, along with other six regions, are the first batch of pilot projects to reduce taxes charged for imported goods. The initiative is part of an attempt by the Chinese government to shift the nation’s economy from an export and investment-driven model to a consumption-driven model. It has been gradually relaxing its consumption related taxes in the past two years.

Originally published on December 12, 2013 Sixteen people were killed early on Wednesday morning (December 11) after a fire ripped through a wholesale fruit market in Shenzhen, China. At least five people were injured in the blaze and sent to hospital. According to a spokesman for the city fire department, Zhang Xiaowei, the fire broke out in the Guangming New District market at around 1:30 in the morning. Twenty-nine fire trucks carrying 145 firefighters were deployed to the scene, and spent about two hours containing the blaze, which burned down an area of about 1,000 square metres. The Xinhua news agency reported the victims were occupying four stalls within the market, and were sleeping when the fire broke out. Zhang said tenants worked and lived in stores inside the market. However, the cause of the blaze is still being investigated, he added. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. -------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news. It was smelly!China’s Underground Market for 40-Year-Old Meat. Chinese diners are known for their ability to eat just about anything. Menu items like stinky tofu, donkey burger and century eggs have broad appeal across China. But when it comes to 40-year-old meat, is there a market? Gangs of meat smugglers think so. Customs officials across China busted 21 smuggling rings so far this year and seized more than 100,000 tons of smuggled frozen chicken, beef and pork earlier this month, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. Some of the meat dated back to the 1970s and 80s, it said. Officials found the meat in local wholesale markets, put its value at 3 billion yuan, or $483 million, and arrested 20 people connected to the smuggling operation, Xinhua said. Some of the meat found was smuggled through Hong Kong to Vietnam and then on to China, Xinhua said. It went on to the central city of Changsha for delivery to other parts of China, such as the southwest province of Sichuan and southern Guangdong province, Xinhua said. Xinhua didn’t elaborate on how the smugglers got the 40-year-old meat or why it hadn’t been sold or eaten after all these decades. What’s clear is that the high demand for meat in China has created an underground market for it. As Chinese people have grown wealthier they have been eating more meat: China is already the world’s largest meat consumer by volume, according to the research arm of Dutch lender Rabobank. But the local supply hasn’t always been big enough to feed the demand. That has created a lucrative market for imports, particularly for proteins like beef. Since China isn’t a large steakholder, the country has started importing and is projected to boost its beef imports by 15% to 20% each year to 2019, Rabobank estimates. Low government support for the industry, a lack of investment in beef production and high labor costs have created a “structural supply deficit” that is causing imports to double and smuggled beef to rise, Rabobank said. The so-called gray market has spurred some meaty scandals in the past, with some sellers passing off rat meat as mutton in 2013. And there have been other incidents involving companies allegedly selling expired meat. Of course, smuggling in China goes far beyond the meat trade. China’s General Administration of Customs publishes countless tales of drug seizures on its website. But meat may be among the most fragrant of customs issues. Xinhua said that one customs official who found the meat, which had been thawed and refrozen many times in transit, almost vomited when finding it. “”It was smelly,” Xinhua quoted him as saying. For more news visit ☛ http://english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http://twitter.com/NTDTelevision Add us on Facebook ☛ http://facebook.com/NTDTelevision Kashgar, a city in China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, is under heavy watch by paramilitary police. It comes after violence last weekend left more than 20 people dead. Local Chinese authorities, who say the incident was a premeditated terrorist attack, led foreign journalists on a supervised tour of the region. Days after last weekend's violence in Kashgar city, local residents are tense and edgy. The city has been placed under heavy security, as armed Chinese paramilitary police patrol the streets. More than 20 anti-riot vehicles have been deployed in the city center. Chinese authorities took Reuters reporters on a tour to cover the aftermath. But, reporters were only allowed to interview certain people. [Wang Jindong, Victim of Weekend Attack]: "They killed people standing nearby, people ran away. But I don't remember, I was brought directly to the hospital." Chinese authorities blame Uighur Muslim separatists for last weekend's violence. The World Uyghur Congress President, Rebiya Kadeer says—in a press statement on their website—the Chinese regime's discriminatory policies have created (quote) "An environment of hopelessness" for Uighurs. The German-based rights group spokesperson says Uighurs don't feel safe at home. [Dilxat Raxit, World Uyghur Congress Spokesperson]: "China's armed police forces just make forced entries to people's houses at any time without going through any legal procedures. This has caused people to live in fear and feel under pressure in their daily life." Chinese officials allege the Uighur attackers are terrorists who have received training in Pakistan. World Uyghur Congress Washington DC-based spokesperson, Alim Seytoff told NTD that Chinese authorities try to make the international community believe that Uighur Muslims are terrorists. Seytoff says their aim is to (quote), "Justify the follow-up [of] heavy-handed repression of and wholesale attack on the peaceful Uighur people, and [to] deflect international concern and criticism of the terrible human rights situation in East Turkestan." Uighur eyewitnesses informed the World Uyghur Congress the weekend attackers are not terrorists as alleged by the Chinese regime. Seytoff says (quote), "They were just desperate Uighurs who simply had enough of China's brutal rule in East Turkestan and had lost all hope of resolving their legitimate grievances through peaceful means." State-controlled Xinhua News Agency reported Chinese police had shot dead two ethnic Uighur suspects for last Sunday's incident. The shooting raises the death toll to 22.

Items sold here include the latest fashioned clothing, bags, costumes, food and wine to luxury cars from more than 30 countries and regions. SOUNDBITE (CHINESE): WANG QIAN, Vice Manager, Tianjin New Financial Assets Co.,Ltd "The facilitation of customs clearance procedure has shortened the circulation period, which helps goods here enjoy a competitive price."
